A few months ago (give or take), nytimes.com added a feature that opened a popup window when you double clicked on a word in an article. It pops up a dictionary definition of the selected word.

Well, when I read the stuff on the web, I compulsively click on and select the text. I don’t know why I do it, perhaps you do it to. My little habit and the new feature were not compatible… until today.

Here’s how you disable that feature in Firefox:

If you haven’t already, install the adblock extension. Click on it and filter the following text out:

Me and an associate have been playing with a binary usenet search in our spare time. It’s over at one of my domains screep.com.

The screep search works a bit differently than other sites. It has a bunch of different search types that will help you locate whatever you need on usenet, with tons more on the way. Instead of just rooting through messages or searching through the subject of each message, the screep search tries to be a little smarter, letting you search for only music… or only movies. Aside from that, it just does things you’d hope it would do. Example? Cover art for music searches. (!!!!)

Sure, the index is very small at the moment, but it’s still preatty neat. Go try it out! I highly recommend trying the kinks search, or grand national.

Yes, the logo thing is from the web 2.0 logo generator thing. And yes, it still cracks me up.
